LEARNER'S PERMIT:

The following documents must be submitted to DPS office to obtain a learner's permit:

Verification of Enrollment (VOE) form from student’s school (valid only 30 days)

Original certified birth certificate, no copies or hospital versions are accepted

No foreign birth certificates accepted, must have resident alien card, passport with US visa, or citizenship papers

Original Social Security card

DRIVING LESSONS:

7 driving lessons – 2 hours for each lesson for a total of 14 hours

Each lesson consists of 1 hour of driving and 1 hour of observation

Students may sign up for the 7 driving lessons once they have received their permit and are paid in full

Drive times are schedule online at www.Schedule2Drive.com, which charges a one-time setup fee of $10 to create an account.

There is a 24 hour cancellation policy for drive times.  A $35 fee will be charged for each late cancellation or no show for drive times.

PARENT OBSERVATION HOURS:  

Student drivers must receive an additional 20 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.  The additional hours must include at least 10 hours that take place at nighttime.

These hours are required to be certified by a parent or guardian and documented on the

20 Hour Parent Log.
