 Teen Driver Education Course Information
Consists of 16 Classroom Lessons and 7 Driving Lessons

During the course, students will...

  1. Complete 16 days of classroom lessons,
  2. Take a written permit test,
  3. Receive a DE964 form to obtain a permit,
  4. Create a Schedule2Drive account to schedule drive times,
  5. Complete 7 driving lessons, and
  6. Receive a final certificate of completion to obtain a driver's license.  
Teen Course Payment Options

Class times and dates vary by location

16 class days - 2 hours each day for a total of 32 hours for 3 or 4 weeks

3 week classes are Monday-Friday and one Saturday (Summer class)

4 week classes are Monday-Thursday

By law, only 5 absences are allowed, make up days are scheduled by the instructor

Students who have not completed the course within the 6 months will have their enrollment terminated and permit cancelled



The following documents must be submitted to DPS office to obtain a learner's permit:

Verification of Enrollment (VOE) form from student’s school (valid only 30 days)

Original certified birth certificate, no copies or hospital versions are accepted

No foreign birth certificates accepted, must have resident alien card, passport with US visa, or citizenship papers

Original Social Security card

DE964 form provided by MLDS


7 driving lessons – 2 hours for each lesson for a total of 14 hours

Each lesson consists of 1 hour of driving and 1 hour of observation

Students may sign up for the 7 driving lessons once they have received their permit and are paid in full

Drive times are schedule online at, which charges a one-time setup fee of $15 to create an account.

There is a 24 hour cancellation policy for drive times.  A $35 fee will be charged for each late cancellation or no show for drive times.



Student drivers must receive an additional 30 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.  The additional hours must include at least 10 hours that take place at nighttime.

These hours are required to be certified by a parent or guardian and documented on the

30 Hour Parent Log.
